interesting.  this looks like a 2nd- or 3rd-generation mutation of
something I made.  if I can find enough of these mutations, I can
build a theory of evolution for ascii art. :)

anyway, here's a final version of a cat I posted a few days ago.

and below is my scratchpad for this cat.  the lower ones are earlier
versions.  the cat become simpler as I worked on it more.  the model
for this was a picture of a tiger, and in the earliest version you can
sort of see the stripes.  but it's hard to do that sort of detail at
this scale except in a vague way, so once I stopped looking at the
model and started doing serious cleanup, the stripes disappeared.
