Try this instead of fingering:

   telnet twinbrook.cis.uab.edu 79

And don't forget the "79" that is the finger port.  After you are connected,
type the userID you wanted to finger, like:

   spinweb

This will circumvent the problems with FINGER clients mucking up an
animation.  The problem is not usually your local FINGER server.
