This is something I'd been thinking of off and on for a while, but never got around to. Until now. What's the Star Trek ascii FAQ? Its a compilation of the ascii art that happens to be floating around the net in multiple and various locations. I aim for it to be a sort of centralized repository for those who don't want to have to hunt down what they're after by method of trial and error. Ok, "so what's where and how do I submit stuff?" Well, to switch the order a little, submissions of stuff not presently in the FAQ should be e-mailed to dionisio@infinet.com. Please make the subject "ST-FAQ submission". And now for "what's where"... Part 1 - General info Part 2 - The _Enterprise_ (All NCCs) Part 3 - Other Federation Ships (Everything BUT the _Enterprise_) Part 4 - The Alien section (Romulan, Klingon, etc... ships & starbases) Part 5 - Ascii pics of characters. (Picard, Spock, etc...) Part 6 - Misc. (Communicators, phasors, and stuff that wouldn't fit in the other catagories (YES, cows too.)) "Why don't you have more stuff than just ascii drawings? Why not include bios of the crew, where to get the Star Trek manuals, the phone number of the sexy babe who played Uhura..." Next question... "I've seen drawings, large drawings, that you don't have. Why not?" In the interest of making this fun for everyone, NO pics greater than 80 columns wide will be included in the FAQ. 80 column screens are standard. And while some people can enjoy the 100+ column drawings that are out there, most everybody else will just see gibberish. "I've seen stuff very similar to what is in the FAQ. Should I send it?" If, in your opinion, what you've found is better, easier on the eyes, or a repeat of a drawing already in the FAQ only larger/smaller, yes, send it. "I'm trying to fine tune something I've drawn but can't make it any better. Help!" Post your work to alt.ascii-art and ask for help. Once you're satisfied with the results, post them to rec.ascii.art (a moderated newsgroup) and e-mail a copy to me. "I know what I want, but I don't want to wade through all the other stuff to get to it. What do I do?" First, save this FAQ to your home directory. Then use an editor to search for the type of thing you're looking for. (Ie, from pico, enter - and type "phasor" to jump to the phasors in part 6. Or enter "DS9" to get to the starbase in section 4.) "I've noted a typo. Can I point it out without getting my molecules scattered across the cosmos in a 'freak transporter accident'?" If you grovel enough, maybe. -- And the Thought of the Moment (tm) is... Batman does it with Robin.
