        Unless the "down arrow" key has a specific function in
        your scanning software that you MUST use, you'd probably
        be better off to choose a different key; one that generates
        an ASCII code. How about the grave accent [ ` ] or the
        tilde [ ~ ]? Those normally don't occur in conventional
        English text strings.
