The review part: A new ascii game as come out called asciijump. It is an ascii ski jump game done in full color (mostly white) ansi. So it really would be better named ansijump but I am not going to make an issue out of it because he is using ascii chars and not extended ascii. The game looks much like you would expect it to: . . . . #H.....,...,,.,..,, o =#8%H8%#HH8#@H*H#** <-- small jump ,. :=#####=###=####=#= \ ,, <-- ascii skier flying ===<==<:===:======/ \ ,/ through air =================== \ / :`==========`====== V _---`--:``-:-`-`--- --.,-.,_--._~-(-^(-,.,,,.,,..,,,.,... ..--------------`-'*#@**8##8#*#@###H#,,...,, ...................#=####==#===#===#=*#H###@,.,,.. ...................======#:==/#==:=====#===##&@#H,,..,t.. ...................==================/#===#==##=##@H8*..., ...................==`=========`============:==:==###=#H&#.... ...................-------:------:-`-======`=:===:===/=##=%&&&., There is normally a touch of falling snow in the bacground but it didn't show up so well in my cut and past so it got nixed. Trust me it looks much better in motion. =====<= ##=#@*#8.,.,. o ====== ==:=##=#%#%##,..., ,: _---=== ======:=#=#==*###@,.,,,, :__:,_, ------- `==`====<#<#=#===#*###*#,,,,.,,,. _'-'.,. --:-`===================***@8@**H..... Anyway enough of the screen shots. This game is only on version 0.0.4 so I didn't expect much from it. The movement is fine but you really only have too worry about one key in the actuall game mode. That key is the enter key. You press enter to shove off and you press enter when you are ready to jump. Once you push off you won't be able to exit the screen until you have been scored on your jump. That could use some work. I don't want a score. I want to hurry off to the next round of sking. The trick seems to be in learning how to jump and land saftly. So far that has provided the most amusment. I will worry about scorring big points some other time. The help menu isn't that discriptive but it doesn't need to be since the game is pretty intuitively laid out. But it does mention that the tab key should move you from one otpion to the other in the menus however I found that only the arrow keys worked for that. I pulled the game down from freshmeat via source code so if you don't have a compiler you are mostly out of luck. I am sure that the game can be a lot of fun for people who like to ski for those who have had too much to drink but it isn't my cup of tea and it will likely never hold a candle to nethack as the best ascii game of all time. If you want to try it out you can get it at http://freshmeat.net/projects/asciijump/ Don't look for any documetntation because it doesn't have any.
