Here's how I solved the problem: 1. Find or (in my case) make an image->ascii conversion program. 2. (in my case) Find or make a webcam program that will grab an image and save that image to a file. 3. Setup a crontab job to first take the picture, then run the converstion, then upload the file to a server.
