Do you need a tool specifically to draw molecules, or just to edit ASCII art? An all-purpose tool which you may find useful is JavE (at http://www.jave.de/) which is an advanced drawing program for ASCII art. I would imagine that a general tool to draw molecules would be impossible, as it would be difficult to anticipate the clearest way to draw a 3D molecule in 2D. The best way to do this may be to post a couple of example molecules to this group and see what people come up with. Here's an example style which might be suitable for smaller molecules: H H H H \ / | | C--C H--C--C--O--H H O==N==O / .. \ | | \ / H--C ( ) C--H H H O C--C H \ "" / ethanol \\ / .. \ | C--C H N--C ( ) C--C--H / \ / H O // \ "" / | H C | // O C--C H / \ H--C--C / \ H H | \ H O==N==O H O--H methylbenzene ethanoic acid trinitrotoluene (TNT) -- | Harry Mason | .------------. | .___, |"Whatever you do will be | | University of | | hjm200 @ | | ___('v')___ | insignificant.
