Pedantic is good. It stops things from getting sloppy. > And what's this about text based browsers? That's the problem with Some people have email clients that only run ascii. And here's one of the big selling points of the whole internet thing - it's not all about the masses. Special interest groups (I'm sure the number of different newsgroups is over 50000 by now... it was 30000 a year ago...) exist because they can. Sometimes peoples' interests conflict, which either leads to a new newsgroup or quarrelling. From what I saw (skimming the posts rather than reading them all in-depth) Palmore came in talking about ansi, someone tried to correct him, and he came out with a torrent of abuse. Maybe because of a misunderstanding, but either way that rubbed people up the wrong way, --> more abuse. > inability to view some sites with your text based browser is not a > concern of this group or any other part of the scene. Um, that's debatable, as it's one of the reasons why ascii-art is still posted. > What exactly is the problem? Even if he didn't mention that they use > ANSI it still wouldn't be much of a big deal to an 'ascii artist' who > wanted to join would it? You really don't have anything to whine > about. Are you just hurt that their website rejected you or something? If someone offers something that doesn't work... To summarise and try to put an end to the argument. -ANSI is not the same as ASCII. I think we know this one by now. -Some people use ascii browsers. They want things flagged ascii to be ascii. -Some people use other browsers. They can read/write more stuff wrt different characters. -This is an ascii-art group, in which non-ascii is converted to junk for ascii browsers - I would suggest (as seems sensible...) post ascii here and ansi/etc where they're more appreciated. The FAQ for the group probably has more about this. -This thread is getting close to being a minor flame war. Points of view are there for those that want to read them; neither side seems likely to be convinced by the other so just leave it. ob-ascii - ,--=====--. | |3:08a| | '-+=====+-' _|_ _|_ clock, showing the reason why I can't think of anything better ^^ -Pete
