Not every computer can display full ascii. that is they don't have the full 127 ascii charcters. For instance the VIC20 does not have the | pipe character. But you can subsititue the special graphics characters that such systems have for the missing ascii ones in some cases. The commodore series has a whole heap of special characters. It would take a little bit of work to convert ascii to such a system but it could be done. Try looking at the ascii art archive here http://www.ascii-art.de/ascii/ You might have trouble with some older computers like the C64. The C64 only has 40 columns of data across.
