The usage of lead indicates radiation. Copper is used as a conductor/coil ( the snake). The usage of Iron is also mentioned in the bible and in the Qur'an, possibily for it's magnetic properties. Mercury, with it's rather volatile nature and connection with air (ionization ?), is specifically mentioned as a source of enormous power.
