Why is always that so many fiction writers have show absolutely no sense when
determining the timelines for their stories ?

Ultra-tech , interstellar travels , superintelligent AI's, highpower
laserweapons that will fry your sorry ass in microseconds .. etc..
And all of this in just a few years or a decade or two.
Think 2001 - the spaceoddysey ( the flic with the murderous AI, HAL ) .. did we
have such technology LAST YEAR ?

Why can't they make an effort to be at least a little credible when determining
the year of the story .. push it 500 -> 1500 years forward .. wouldn't that be
much more credible ?

SOMEONE SHOULD RESEARCH THAT !
