So did I :-) And that's why I finally implemented it. Most of it already
works - there are only a few bugs I have to fix (if I only had a little
more spare time for that all...). And at the moment you can only
add/remove rectangular regions from the selection (using shift and
ctrl-key as one is used from other applications). I will have to write a
tool for freehand selection in the future...
