Just for the record, my name tends to be pronounced either:

1. Ha - keem  (probably closer to the original arabic pronunciation of
the name)
2. Ha - kim   (with short 'kim')

I used to think that the second version was easier to
pronounce - Hakim was quite an unusual name in the UK!  So my oldest
friends call me Ha*kim*.  Later I discovered that people seem to be
more familiar
with Ha*keem*, so most people call me that now.

3. 'A - kiim  (French)
4. Ah - kim   (Italian #1)
5. A  - keem  (Italian #2)
6. Huh - kim  (Finnish)

...and funnily enough my surname is Gunderhan  ;->
