I'd say go to Veronica Karlsson's ASCII page at
http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/pics/ascii/ASCII.HTML , but her site seems to be
down at the moment.  When it does come back up, she has some good references
and links on it.  I've got some of the FAQ's cached, if you want me to zip
them up and email them to you.

To peruse other artists' work, go to www.google.com and search for "ascii
art", or go to the ascii art webrings at
http://r.webring.com/webring?ring=ascii&list or
http://artcode.org/ascii/list.php .

As for an editor, check out Markus Gebhart's www.jave.de for the -best-
ascii art tool around!  He also has references to Figlet fonts (at
http://ianchai.50megs.com/figlet.html ), which are used to automatically
transform typed letters to ascii art letters (useful for banners, lettering,
etc.).

Finally, when you find something that catches your fancy and ascii-fy it,
