He is the single survivor of a family of 17 (his parents, 3 brothers, 11 sisters all died in Auschwitz). As a toddler John was adopted by Theo and Hetty Brahms in Sweet, North Carolina. John grew up as 'normal' teenager: he went to war in Korea (even made it to lieutenant), and set up a business in tobacco in Charlotte, NC. December 24 Eve 1965 his parents told him he was 'just' an adopted child of the Brahms's and Stachowicz was his real name. In 1968 John sold his tobacco shops and went to Palestine. During the Yom Kippur War John lost his right arm. After this dreadful event mister Stachowicz dedicated his life to the arts. John was a three times winner of the 'ASCII-artist of the year' competition (1978, 1982 and 1984). He also took part in the 'Ceuta to Congo Camel Contest', a camel endurance race over 5000 miles. In September 2001 John Stachowizc was found drowned in the oasis Al Khamalla near the Algerian and Niger border. With respect to his deeds the Algerian-Niger border people named the three hills after him... John J.
