Thats right but not the point. The problem is that there are many codepages
and the characters 127-255 may differ. But in all CPs the characters 32-126
look (mostly) the same (except for some characters like the tilde (~)).

The second way is probably the most useful if you want to have fun in
usenet.

Yes, there is software for doing that. Simply google for "image2ascii
converter" and you will find lots of results. The best one IMO is JavE
(www.jave.de) which is also a complete ASCII-art drawing program. And no, VB
is _not_ slow if you know how to use the Windows API. But that's OT.
