I agree .. <TT>'s SHOULD not be needed .. and adding them makes it incorrect HTML
according to the standard.
HOWEVER not adding them will cause the ascii to display incorrectly in bad browsers.

It's up to you - Do you want to make :

Correct HTML that DOES NOT work in all browsers?
or
Incorrect HTML that DOES work in all browsers?

I go for the thing that works.
