There is one correct way to display ascii art in an html page. That thing up there is 
not it.

1. You should use the <pre> tag (and no other tags).
2. You should encode/escape "active" characters:
     Change all  &  to  &amp;  (including the semicolon)
     Change all  <  to  &lt;   (including the semicolon)

That's it. It works. Here's a little tool I made which does the work for you:
