That is true for any converting tool. The resolution with ascii
characters is restricted. Most converters take only 1 greyscale pixel
per character, some take 4 pixels. Others do not do greyscale conversion
but convert in monochrome mode and use up to 3x2 pixels. By hand one can
try to somewhat increase the resolution by modifying/combining/...
details from the original image.
However the conversion works: the greater the result image, the more
pixels will be mapped to ascii and the more will the result look like
the original :-)

I like Opera's ability to scale the html page. Just use the + and - keys
on the numberpad. At 20% one can see the image in full width. Hitting
F11 opens the full screen view.
