YG: As far as the whole Leif Erikson thing, weren't there Irishmen a century or two before even him? I've heard stories of Phoenician settlements in modern-day Brazil, but the evidence seems to me to be a tad weak; same deal with the similar stories of Minoan settlements in what's now Massachusetts.
