Inout that could help in the creation of an automated tool (like JavE) for some of things they describe : Rowan Crawford talks about a lot of subjects .. http://users.inetw.net/~mullen/crateach.htm What interested me here was perspective/3D drawing (although he said nothing much I did'nt knew already) His inputs about shading chars (I still haven't found the perfect chars for this yet .. but as you know I generally prefer a simple charset that seem smooth to the eye) And this about solid drawing where he uses lowercase letter to create a halfheight solid line (compare to f.x. JavE's "thick" and "thin" lines) " anpoan dHP dHP dHBooan " I tried to do more of this kind of thin .. but still not quite linedrawing oooo 8 8 8oo8 .oo. o o 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 o o 'oo' .o0o..o0o. '*0*''*0*' Normand Veilleux talk a lot about smoothing ascii-art in his tutorial http://users.inetw.net/~mullen/veiteach.htm ..but I guess you (Mr. Gebhard) already know this as JavE does much of the same stuff in the same way. He also talks about lightening and darkening an ascii-picture ( a feature I had just thought of myself before I read this). He writes he developed pseudocode for it, but alas it will be hard to contact him to get the code .. because as far as I know he's dead. Maybe he mentioned his code to someone before .. Anyhow as I see it , lightening and darkening a ascii picture will be a matter of replacing chars normally used for shading with other chars that have a lighter or darker appearence. It could both be a tool that changed the entire screen at once and a lighten/darken brush. Speaking of brushes .. How about outline cursors .. like how Photoshop uses does (can do) f.x with line , dot and char linedrawing the cross cursor would be fine, but with thick1 , 2 and 3 a circle showing the aproximated size of the brush would be better IMO. A little like how the Eraser tool does .. only with a real circle. more on brushes .. I think a smoothing tool to smooth : XXX XXXXXX XXXXXXXXX into .o0 .o0000 .o0000000 Should probably also be a brush-type of tool as well as a tool that does the entire screen/selection .. I'll end here.. I'm gonna get back into my think tank to develop a algorithm for good circles Cheers CeeJay
