It was used to refer to relatively small and therefore easily movable - within the lab - computers that in the old days performed specialized calculations. These days laptops (as general purpose computers) can be used in a lab or on the road (as true portables), but when used within the lab their are still referred to as "labtops". Sometimes, educational institutions require specific models of labtop-laptop computers with specific configurations. The ASCII art is pretty cool by the way! :) LW In article <3b0b6452.580171@news.ntlworld.com>, stumo@bigfoot.com says... > On Tue, 22 May 2001 21:15:41 GMT, "Mike Chomic" > enlightened us with: > > > I beg you, please help > > me get a labtop computer. > > Seems fair enough. > > > ._________________. > |.---------------.| > || || > || -._ .-. || > || -._| | | || > || -._|"|"| || > || -._|.-.| || > ||_______________|| > /.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.\ > /.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.\ > /.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.\ > /______/__________\___o_\ DrS > \_______________________/ > > __ [] > || [] > || [] > || [] > __ || [] > || || [] > .-||-||-.
