ROTFL :-) No, I will NOT suggest to use Jave for viewing ascii files.
But I have seen an ascii viewer on de.alt.rec.ascii-art a few days ago:

It is neat, but still I'm missing something like thumbnail preview for a
whole directory (like most graphics programs have).
