And have you tried thumbnail browsing by pressing T or just skipping forward and backwards with SPACE and BACKSPACE (or by using the mouse in slideshow mode .. slideshow is ENTER btw) F is also a very handy key as it scales an image to fit the screen (which look really good if you have set resampling on in the options) + & - zooms in and out. There are others, but I usually only edit my own photograps or pictures so I have no need for this and thus can't remember any programs. Try searching google for lossless jpeg cropping.
