Thanks for the reply, Martin;

But as it happens, my browser (Netscape4.73) is not choking on the
extraneous <font> tags in the html coding. It is choking on the
stylesheet.

If I disable stylesheets when viewing posts via
Google/used-to-be-dejanews, then they are in fixed width. That is
perfectly acceptable solution for me as it is quite simple to
disable/enable stylesheets.

And to think that someone is being PAID to put in all those extra font
tags....

way meant to imply that I think Ool would be so foolish and prodigal
with font tags between pre tags.)
