It appears that it's supposed to evade cancelbots and spamfilters that search for a: certain subjectlines and b: messages with the same subject etc. being posted multiple times... Seems like certain SpamWare inserts those automatically... Like in: "Spam is Great!!!1 4242" is a different subject than "Spam is Great!!!1 1313". How smart/effective that is is another thing alltogether - most better filters seem to get rid of the crap nonetheless... > I'm tempted to set it as a filtering system. Interesting idea... never thought about something like that myself, since my newsserver[1] uses excellent filtering etc., but it might work. Maybe not as the only criterion - four-digit numbers aren't all *that* uncommon, but as one of several indicators it should be pretty safe. Tilman ---------- [1] More or less publicly funded. Definetely better than pretty much any of the ISP-or otherwise commercially-run newsservers over here. *Far* better. Free to use. One more example that "prvatize everything! Rigth now! Totally" is straight and utter bullshit. Whatever, I'm starting to rant again... -- ,--------------------------------------------------------. |Tilman Ahr | Email: rioteer@gmx.net | | | tilman.ahr@student.hu-berlin.de | `--------------------------PGP-Key available by request--
