Well, it's a matter of personal preference and opinion... You like the "GIF" style -- and that's fine. There are others that like it too. To me, it looks OK from a distance and with light text on a dark background. It isn't my style or preference... And I wouldn't necessarily say that 'line art' is easier. That is evidenced by many people attempts at it. Agreed, some results are less than satisfactory... but then again, some results are less than satisfactory with the 'GIF' style as well.
