Surely your newsserver doesn't drop that many > messages. * The server I normally use used to keep messages for two days (at the moment it doesn't seem to keep them at all, but that's a different story). Many threads are longer than that. * One shouldn't have to "pay attention to the thread". One should be able to delete read messages without having to worry about back-tracking to figure out who wrote what. * People sort the messages in different ways (and not everybody uses "threading"). * Killfiling... * Crossposting... All these things (and probably a few others as well) affect how well one can "pay attention to the thread". Just because *you* happen to see a "thread" there doesn't mean everybody else will, or that it will look the same as it does in your news reader. Snipping the attributions is rude. Please don't do it. -- ##### c ^ OO /\\\\ ##### | /|\ `^^^^^^^%-- '||` | \\\\ #### <@ \ / \ " " \ ha ha ha dd / @> \\\| ### _| |_ \\| ### (_ http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/cgi/asciichat/ _) == \ / A S C I I A R T C H A T \ ||\
