Interesting, but not quite what I was thinking. The pics shown could be just as easily painted. Specifically, I was thinking of traditional ASCII art. But, instead of working in courier, have you tried to do a picture using Times-Roman? Or some other font? If posted, you would have to tell us what font to set our newsreaders to. Years ago, I took a printing course - at that time Helvetica was popular. Approximate width counts were something like: 1/2 for i and j; 1.5 for caps or m; 2 for M; etc.
