It is. But eye-practise too. Many people develop the taste for characters
late.

No, no. This is not about the "shade" at all. The JFL puts the _line_ 
where it belongs by paying the price of extra line pieces here and there.
If those extra bumps are not connected to anything else in the picture 
your eye should somewhat ignore them.

Well, I would call your style "light" whereas the JFL stuff is straight 
lines too - but strong.
