Yes, that's what I thought! It couldn't be 1995 because in 1995 I wasn't
familiar with newsgroups and I do remember writing to that group. And I
seem to remember doing so about a year ago...  :)

It's called a "signature" ("sig" for short). Some people think it's fun
to put stuff like that at the end of their letters and posts. They could
contain interesting information such as email addresses, homepage URLs,
phone numbers, etc. They could also contain some ascii art decoration.
One such decoration is a text string written in large letters. This can
be done quite easily with a program called "Figlet". Figlet can be found
here: http://www.surfplaza.com/figlet/  . Figlet is GOOD! Figlet is
NICE! GET FIGLET!
