  I think, if you configure your newsreader to get news
 from a node called "news.demon.co.uk", that will do the job
 [if you can point it at any node you like, rather than some
 fixed news server on an internal network].  You can't telnet
 into your demon account via your accademic network -- purely
 because you have to log in from your fixed IP number not
 the uni's node -- but you probably could telnet into a
 an account with Netcom UK or similar.  Isn't there anyone
 around uni who is good at these things (i.e. a clever compsci
 student who knows about subversive things like outside newsservers)
