There are only 128 ASCII codes and only 256 extended ASCII codes so alt-0753 gives you character 241 (the bits higher then 8 binary bits are lost (or if you prefer subtract 256 until you get a number less than 256) - this is the character you get. So as you can see entering numbers greater than 255 just repeats the lower numbered characters.
