It will delete, move, or copy a rectangle, which it calls a "column block." A rectangle can shove existing text over, or replace it. In Column Block mode, you can combine this: .-----.---.---. | Tab | Q | W | :-----`.--`.--'. | Ctrl | A | S | :------`.--`.--'. | Shift | Z | X | `-------`---`---' ...with this: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz ...to get this: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcd.-----.---.---. efghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcd| Tab | Q | W | efghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcd:-----`.--`.--'. efghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcd| Ctrl | A | S | efghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcd:------`.--`.--'.efghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcd| Shift | Z | X |efghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcd`-------`---`---'efghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz ...or, with Column Replace on, to get this: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcd.-----.---.---. vwxyz abcd| Tab | Q | W | vwxyz abcd:-----`.--`.--'. vwxyz abcd| Ctrl | A | S | vwxyz abcd:------`.--`.--'.vwxyz abcd| Shift | Z | X |vwxyz abcd`-------`---`---'vwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz Often imitated, never equaled.
