I use Terminal in MS Windows95 and paste it into Notepad. Both of these have equal spaced fonts. Someone reposted my list of fonts that work well. I neglected to save the list I made. Oops. If you paste it into Word or Wordperfect then the default font is distorting. Some fonts can be fixed easily enough with a few spacesbars entered but some will never work. I think Word starts out with New Times Roman. Anyway experiment with how many equal spaced fonts that you have to see which ones you like.
