One year from now on June 30th 1997 the sovereignty over Hong Kong will 
pass from Britain to China. An Exhibition to record people's artistic 
reaction to this dramatic change will be held at three locations. Gallery 
7, a leading gallery in Hong Kong (Nov '96), at the Edinbrough Festival 
in U.K (Aug '97), and a gallery in China (T.B.C). EVERYONE IS INVITED TO 
PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROJECT.

The project is running through the postal service and the Internet. 
Thousands of blank postcards have been distributed in Hong Kong. 
Participants write/paint/draw/ or generally express themselves on half of 
the postcard and then send it on to someone in either the U.K or China 
for that person to complete the other half. It is then posted back to a 
GPO Box in Hong Kong where it is collected by the organisers. However the 
project is not only aimed at HK-UK-China but also anyone in any country 
who may have a particular connection or interest in Hong Kong and 1997.

Internet users all over world have an ideal opportunity to also get 
involved in this project. Contributions by Internet will be printed out 
on a colour thermal wax printer for inclusion in the Exhibitions. To 
match the postcards the final image should be 8' x 5.5', and divided in 
half any way imaginable. 

Save your image or text preferably in TIFF or JPG format and send it as 
an attachment to your E-mail message to a friend for them to complete. 
Your friend can then send back a completed copy to you with a c.c to me 
at jwhittle@hk.super.net. Files sent to this address should preferably be 
in PC format but Mac users who are unsure of how to convert the file can 
still send it in Mac format with a message attached. If you don't know 
someone who would like to fill in the rest please send your section to me 
and I will ensure that it gets to someone in the other countries. A 
completed version will then be sent back to you. Images should be 
returned by September.

If you would prefer to create your image directly on a postcard, please 
Email us your postal address and we will send you some.

A catalogue of postcards will be printed from those received and will be 
on sale at every exhibition venue. The proceeds from this will go towards 
the H.K Youth Arts Festival a non-profit making charity commited to Youth 
Arts in Hong Kong.
