There is no need to be rude. You didn't supply enough information in your first request for anyone to be able to help you. I simply asked you to expand in areas which might help me understand what you needed. What you have now told me is that they are NOT ascii art files [which usually end in .asc or .txt] but ANSI art files. That explains why you might be having trouble reading them. ANSI art uses the extended ASCII character set and not every terminal is set up to interpret these characters as "text" characters. Here are some ASCII "Hi's". HH HH II HH HH II HHHHHH II HH HH II HH HH II =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@*******#@ =+*#@ =+*#@*******#@ =+*#@ =+*#@"""""~*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ =+*#@ You should have no trouble reading this on whatever system you have. I've attached a file to your letter which includes both this plus an ANSI "Hi", so you can see the difference. [I can't include this in the bulk of the letter because PINE would note the strange characters and translate the whole letter into base64: which your system might not be able to translate.] If you try to view the file on your terminal it will probably read as nonsense. In order to view the file you will need to save or export it to your home directory and then download it onto a PC. FTP and downloading protocols will give you a choice of format: choose BINARY format, zmodem or xmodem, not ASCII. If you choose ASCII some of the characters will be translated into format instructions: you don't want this to happen. You should be able to read the results as "art" with most standard text readers or editors on a PC. If you don't have access to a PC then ANSI art is not available to you at the moment. The development of ASCII art came about because many people don't own a PC and only have access to a terminal which cannot handle ANSI code. - RLW -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rosemary Lyndall Wemm Rosemary from DownUnder _--_|\ Clinical Neuro-psychologist lyndall@haywire.DIALix.oz.au Perth / \ Perth, Western Australia berry@perth.DIALix.oz.au -->\_.--._/ ------------------- http://haywire.dialix.com/~lyndall -----------------v- ---559038737-851401618-821243322=:29496 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; name="ansi.txt" Content-Transfer-Encoding: BASE64 Content-ID: Content-Description: DQpUaGlzIGlzIGFuIEFOU0kgImhpIjogICAgDQogDQogICAgICDJzc3Nzc3N zc3Nzc3NzbsNCiAgICAgILogICAgICAgICAgICAgug0KICAgICAguiAguiAg ILogICC6ICC6DQogICAgICC6ICDMzc3NuSAgILogILoNCiAgICAgILogILog ICC6ICAguiAgug0KICAgICAguiAgICAgICAgICAgICC6DQogICAgICDIzc3N zc3Nzc3Nzc3NzbwNCg0KICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgsLGy29sg ICAgsLGy29sgICAgICCwsbLb2w0KICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAg sLGy29sgICAgsLGy29sgICAgICCwsbLb2w0KICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAg ICAgICAgsLGy29sgICAgsLGy29sgICAgICCwsbLb2w0KICAgICAgICAgICAg ICAgICAgICAgICAgsLGy29uwsbLbsLGy29sgICAgICCwsbLb2w0KICAgICAg ICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgsLGy29uwsbLbsLGy29sgICAgICCwsbLb2w0K ICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgsLGy29sgICAgsLGy29sgICAgICCw sbLb2w0KICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgsLGy29sgICAgsLGy29sg ICAgICCwsbLb2w0KICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgsLGy29sgICAg sLGy29sgICAgICCwsbLb2w0KICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAg ICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgIA0KDQoNCg0KVGhpcyBpcyBhbiBBU0NJ SSAiaGkiOiAgDQoNCiAgIEhIICBISCAgICBJSQ0KICAgSEggIEhIICAgIElJ DQogICBISEhISEggICAgSUkNCiAgIEhIICBISCAgICBJSQ0KICAgSEggIEhI ICAgIElJDQogICANCg0KICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgPSsqI0Ag ICAgPSsqI0AgICAgICA9KyojQA0KICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAg PSsqI0AgICAgPSsqI0AgICAgICA9KyojQA0KICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAg ICAgICAgPSsqI0AgICAgPSsqI0AgICAgICA9KyojQA0KICAgICAgICAgICAg ICAgICAgICAgICAgPSsqI0AqKioqKioqI0AgICAgICA9KyojQA0KICAgICAg ICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgPSsqI0AqKioqKioqI0AgICAgICA9KyojQA0K ICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgPSsqI0AiIiIiIn4qI0AgICAgICA9 KyojQA0KICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgPSsqI0AgICAgPSsqI0Ag ICAgICA9KyojQA0KICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgPSsqI0AgICAg PSsqI0AgICAgICA9KyojQA0KICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgPSsq I0AgICAgPSsqI0AgICAgICA9KyojQA0KDQoNCg0K ---559038737-851401618-821243322=:29496--
