Accually, contrary to popular belief. The sign you are describing is not 
the sign of the devil any more than K.I.S.S. stood for Knights In Satan's 
Service. Both misconception were started by idiotic and misinformed 
religious freaks who were attempting to link heavy metal music with 
satanism (and managed for there efforts to get more kids to listen to it) 
The described sign was created by Ronnie James Dio (ex-singer for Black 
Sabbath) because he thought it looked cool. The sign caught on among he 
metal community and you will now see it everywhere although ask almost 
anyone who uses it and they will not know where it came from. And now you 
know.
