Actually there are several.  I think the reason that people stop
answering is that people keep asking the same question over and over
again.  This is called a Frequently Asked Question.  There is a file
posted here regularly called (surprise, surprise) alt.ascii-art FAQ,
which answers most of these questions.

which contains several GIF->ASCII converters such as GIFSCII, as well
as many archives of ASCII art.
