This sort of thing used to be **VERY** common as a demonstration of the "power of computers" about ten years ago...but I've never heard of any particular software that accomplishes this task...Conversion of greyscale "levels" into assorted typographic/ASCII characters, assigned on the relative "density" of ink of a block of characters...
