It might work.  rec.puzzles.crosswords has a couple of clue-writing
contests that regularly get okay participation, from both regulars and
newbies.

Entries would be anonymous.  Reader votes and comments would be
anonymous.  Part of the incentive of entering is getting good feedback
for your effort.
