Shit, and here I've spent allmost 5 minutes writing the ultimate c-program to fix this, and then there already exists such a thing.

to run it:

cat <anim.vt> | slowdown <slowdown factor>

where slowdown factor (in an xterm in OpenWin on a SunELC) is a number usually between 20-100.
