We are working together on this project on very different Backgrounds: art, computer science and design. In the frame of the German festival of Universities of art, media und music in Dortmund, we plan to print your pictures and texts using a self - constructed printer. All contributions will be shown together, without comment or censorship, on a paper surface of 3x4 meters. From 17 June 1994 to 24 June 1994 we can print about 10 sheets - approx. 8 contributions per sheet - so that 80 contributions might be able to be realized. Please send us your contributions to your understanding, feelings, and hopes when you think about "time", e.g. pictures, drawings, sketches, texts, poems, sheets of music, soundtexts etc. On the spot, at any time. The contributions will be saved in the order of receipt and printed at the time mentioned above. All results and your contributions are documented in the form of a World Wide Web Server and will be updated daily during the festival, so that the festival can be observed by all net users. ( I will make a seperate announcement when the server is up and running). The festival will take place in Dortmund, a German town of about 600.000 inhabitants. Places of exhibition are the museum of art "Am Ostwall", the city hall, and the galery of the Postbank. You can find our printer in the galery of the Postbank, Hiltropwall 4-12. Formats for your contributions: We have built a low-resolution printer in black & white: 2cm dot size, 4x3m printable area. Due to this the pictures should be small, you can send them in color if you like (for the presentation in the WWW), but then we have to resize and dither them. I would propose 240 x 160 dots pictures as normal size. We have to experiment with other dot sizes and overlap between dots to achieve best results... Text have to be short, they will also be changed to bitmaps in order to be printable. If you like, you can do this yourself (then you see how limited space is). Because I can't make up an ftp server for this project, submissions should be sent by e-mail. Encode your binary data with uuencode and include into your mail. You can also add comments to your contribution which will show up in the WWW-Pages. Send submissions to: hans@obelix.khm.uni-koeln.de We can process most of the well known picture formats: GIF,JPEG etc. Thanks in advance (I hope I haven't forgot anything important) Hans -- Hans Huber, Academy for Media Arts Cologne hans@obelix.khm.uni-koeln.de
