I won't even ask what Mike was doing *in* your nose in the first place. 
 
As for "splutter," it's as obvious a combinatorial as "decimate," 
what the Rev. C. L. Dodgson would have referred to as a "portmanteau word."
 
"Split" and "utter" combine to reference the classic "apical interlabial
unvoiced split fricative," or "Bronx Raspberry."    (See what attempting

I'm sure there is a linguistics-jargon term for defining whether the 
observed utterance occurs with or without full-range saliva spray, 
but you get the idea.
