For what it's worth, anything I've done with Gifscii has taken nearly
that long :-)  Get the contrast right, play with the brightness, try invert,
and edge detect ... then do that all at various sizes.  People can't expect
to crank a pic through with the default settings and have anything
presentable pop out.
