Your little guy is called Clem, not Kilroy. Clem is a popular grafetti that goes all the way back to the 1890's, and would often be seen in the margins of edited copy. I've been seeing Clem in email and news sigs for years. The words "Kilroy was Here" are another popular piece of grafetti, believed to have been spread by a newspaper correspondant in World War I.
