This is because of the potential security problem of receiving random data on a "smart" terminal. Many smart terminals have a control sequence that lets you change the "answerback" string, and another sequence that will tell the terminal to send that string, as if it were typed. So a malicious person could put in his ".plan" file something that tells your terminal to, say, remove all your files. --
