Exactly, the wider the propagation, the more artists will be reached and the more artists are reached, the more art will be contributed. >I'm not in favor of moderation, however. I get the feeling that many >people are leery of moderated groups, perhaps because I myself am. Granted. I have seen the case of a moderator who only posts about 5% of all the posts sent to him. That is dictatorship, not moderation. >From what Bob Allison has explained so far about how he views the moderation of the group, a large portion of the traffic would go through (say 80% as a rough guess). The rest would be referred to the FAQ for answers or would be told that their posts were inappropriate. There are only two things that can be done to improve the quality of the posts in a particular group: 1) increase the number of relevant posts 2) decrease the number of irrelevant posts IMO, a moderator that removes the 'bad' posts (such as the ones that can start flame wars) is doing a great service to the newsgroup community since such posts often attract an additional 5, 10, 20 or more irrelevant posts. >Everyone's voice counts, even if they haven't got much to add. And to that I'll add that, IMO subscribers to rec.arts.ascii would benefit from the form of moderation that Bob Allison proposes. -- Normand Veilleux nveilleu@emr1.emr.ca
