Time Out, May 17 "Unleash your creative urges on blank canvases!" Evening Standard, May 18 Y'know we're nothing if not generous. Over the last few months what've we given you lot? Blank canvases to Jackson Pollock. Perspex boxes to DJ in. And - lest we forget - gallons of FREE absinth. So we thought this month we'd go that bit darker. (And get a bit native new yorker...) Sexmutant at Surgical Tank sets two of the Big Apple's biggest DJ's, Kiss 98.7 FM's Tanya Simpson and Shayne Sealy, against a a night of edgy and provocative new material by a range of international artists, whose work explores (trans)gender and sex(uality). A glimpse of a fluid world without fixed sex/gender boundaries. A liminal space of shape-shifting, paradoxical identities. Featuring works by Lee Adams, Oreet Asherey, Marisa Carnesky, Jordan Mckenzie, Cat Monstersmith, Hans Scheirl, Svar Simpson, Del La Grace Volcano, plus works by Sam Dowd & Jessica Nash. This is your first chance to delve into Sexmutant before it opens at the Nunnery Gallery in East London on September 16th. All this to a soundtrack by Kiss FM's Tanya Simpson and Shayne Sealy, the former a legendary radio DJ in her native New York, the latter a resident mixmaster and remixer to the likes of Whitney Houston, Ten City and Public Enemy. Residents Perl + Dean will follow with some slammin' funky house. And, once you're all sexed out, you can chill to special guest Dave Cridge (Up, Bustle & Out / Ninja Tunes) upstairs in the Dakota Bar, who'll be mixing up everything from Hip Hop and Latin to Breaks, Beats, and quality drum 'n' bass. As usual, residents O-Double-S and Shuckzone, will again continue their kool skool in the art of mixing. Intrigued?
