And WHY doesn't it belong in this newsgroup? As far as I can see the
topic "how to present ascii art in html" concerns both html and ascii
art.

What do you mean? I don't think I have seen *any* discussions about Java
in this newsgroup - ever.

Why whould they think that? Or do you belong to the group of people who
think that talking about sex in schools will lead to more teenages
having sex?

It would be pretty weird if the people in alt.html and
comp.infosystems.www.authoring.html did not mention html... Those are
two text-only newsgoups (just like alt.animals.felines and
rec.pets.cats.anecdotes are text-only newsgroups) where people DISCUSS
how to write html. If you make a post to either of these groups USING
html you will most likely be flamed for it.

Yes, I definitely agree with you on these points. I still don't see how
they relate to discussing how to present ascii art in html.
